2 1915 Harley Davidson motorcycles

Here are 2 very nice Harley Davidson motorcycles.

Close up on the alemite screw on grease zirks.
Note the last year for round stock fender brackets, 1916 and up go w the flat channel fender brackets.

Look close at the speedo, you can read the Harley Davidson logo! and "oil" on cap for the oil side.

Even the original seat has the Harley Davidson bar and shield, how kool is that?

Acetyline tanker to run the headlight and taillight.

Presto-lite acetylene gas tanker gauge on tanker and some unique passenger footboards.

Non-Skid script on the tire tread...

One can also run the later small 3 bolt Linkert m16s and m18s to improve fuel delivery over the original issue Scheblers as this owner has.
Also here you can see the flat 1 year only shifter to accomodate the last years flat side tanks. 1915 is the last year for the small wine cork size gas caps. Was that to coincide w larger gas nozzles? at the gas station.
Dan wanted me to be sure to mention Terry Marsh of Oregon for helping him get his 1915 going w many rare hard to find parts, Terry has helped me out w my 1915 also. Great guy who I can consider an expert on 1915 HDs among others.
Thank you Dan and Damon for letting me run some great fotos on your bikes.
Production of singles and twins for 1915 are 16,645 motorbikes, heres 2 of them.
If you have a 1915 send me a foto to post....

Alfa Romeo 101 series Giulia front suspension spacer install

Above the 101 series 1300cc Giulietta w/out the hood "intake" .
Above the 101 series 1600cc Giulia , taller engine and the "intake" on the hood to accomodate it.

Finnally installed the front suspension spacers so the 1963 Giulia Spider rides higher w/out smashing the front fender panel. This doesnt appear to be a factory problem w the Giulietta series w the smaller 1300cc engine but the heavier 1600 cc engine it creates a factory problem w/out a solution from Alfa Romeos Giulia series cars, the spacer can only fit at the top of the spring, no shock adjustment will overcome this bottoming out problem, Tony Stevens at
sells these spacers and many other essential parts.

Magnetzünder BMW R12 magdynamo vs R11 R62 R42 Bosch mag

I have this unusual Bosch mag-dynamo that only sparks in the counterclockwise orientation. It physically fits on an R12 but of course isnt compatible, a R12 needs a Bosch mag that sparks in the clockwise orientation. Its been rebuilt w plug wires etc and it sparks hot. I have no idea what model it fits , Zundapp or other antique BMW bike. Whenever i post anything on this blog i get plenty of replies , so if you really know what model it fits , email me at the contact page, its available if you need it..

Heres a link to a site that sells NEW replacement magdynamos, so truthfully why waste time and money rebuilding temperamental old junk mags, these new ones have the solid state electrics vs the old points,

http://www.powerdynamo.biz/eng/systems/7195/719520main.htm

UPDATE just learned the opposite rotation mag-dynamo Magnetzünder is a R11 R62 R42 magdynamo..i dont need it so if someone out there needs it email , it can be converted for about $1000 to be a r12 mag-dynamo by these folks

1928 Indian 101 Scout,1927 Scout and Camel-back

1928 101 in red and black, 1927 and 1900s Camel-back
My friend Pat built these a few yrs back. The 1928 101 is a short frame model w/out front brakes. 1928 is the first yr for the 101 Scout series, 1927 Scout in the middle is a 45 cubic incher w a longer frame and longer gas tank, officially its not a 101 Scout but called a "Police Special", maybe because they were sold to PDs. Officially for Indian and Harley Davidson 1928 is the first year for front brakes . Among other advances for Indian was the 3rd axle that supports the front of the engine thru the engine thru 2 "sidecar" like brackets. 1927 was the last year for among other issues a "pedestal" mount, the front of the engine rested on a "pad" or "pedestal". These pedestals broke off w regularity so Indian overcame this w the successful front axle for the engine for all models less Fours. The last bike is a super rare 1909 Camel-back. If I'm wrong on the year ,let me know. can't miss the handlebar mounted Klaxon push horns.
Some folks call the early years for Indian to 1915 as the "high watermark" of production, Indian produced 3/4 more bikes than the Motor Co. to 1915. This is just one reason the pre 1915 HDs are so rare, far fewer produced, combine that w 2 world wars ,where scrap metal drives decimated the numbers of all early motorcycles.

1937 Indian Chief,1929 101 Scout roller

the 1929 101 scout roller, probably the worst 101 i have ever taken on, instead of rethreading a part the previous owner felt just brass welding over the threads was a more effective strategy.Proof the worlds not running out of morons. Replaced rear wheel, handlebars, i got the gas tanker from Moen at Indian Parts Europe in Denmark
http://www.indianpartseurope.com/
the original gas tanker was a glorified bed pan to drop off at a senior center .
the powerplant was trashed, i mean everything has to be replaced, even trashed its a testament to how well Indian made things, cylinders, cases, etc are all serviceable.

The 1937 finnally is back to being a roller again after Jerry Greers Indian engineering did the wheel hub berring assemblies.http://www.jerrygreersengineering.com/
top quality work and outstanding parts. none of that made in Taiwan product..a fellow once told me the reason the parts are made in Taiwan is so you cant go down the street to kick their ass for selling you junk that doesnt fit. Some of it is good stuff i have to say..pretty close. some i just consider display quality only, Next for the 1937 is a proper valve and piston job..from Boretech in ohio.. You're a fool if you go anywhere else, http://www.bore-tech.com/

They can do anything ...

Here is the 1937 Indian Chief as a chopper, I blasted the frame hr after hr, previous owner added virtually indestructable bondo to it,the frame # matched the engine number, so i had to restore the frame w Michael Breedings top quality replacement castings, http://www.mikesindianparts.com/
damn nice, seat T,below tank shifter, footboard brackets, they were pretty easy to weld on , but i did have a 1936 frame to compare to,
The chopper is kool , but an original Chief is more kool... If you want to build a chopper just go to Pat Kennedys site http://www.harleycustom.com/Prod-Pat_Kennedy_-_Custom_Chopper_Motorcycle_Frame-2-125.html
you dont have to destroy a perfectly good rare HD or Indian frame..Besides choppers turn like your driving a semi... to each his own......
